Native to the tropical regions of South America the cacao tree has been a very important food source for thousands of years. Its botanical name Theobroma Cacao literally means ‘Food of the Gods’. The medicinal uses of cacao have been dated as far back as the 16th century and range from helping to reduce fatigue to improving mood and heart strength. Our Organic Cacao Powder has a smooth, full-bodied flavour and is considered to be the best tasting of all cacao varieties.

Source of Magnesium
Cacao powder is one of the best food sources of magnesium available. A large majority of western society are deficient in this stress-busting mineral due to poor food choices, excess alcohol/caffeine consumption and high stress levels. Magnesium is involved in over 300 metabolic processes within the body. It is key to ensuring a good night’s sleep as well as proper muscle and nerve function. Adequate magnesium consumption also ensures clarity of mind and helps to reduce feelings of stress and fatigue.
Cacao products have the ability to improve our feelings of wellbeing due to their positive effect on a number of key neurotransmitters known for their anti-depressant abilities such as serotonin, dopamine, phenylethylamine and anandamide. These chemicals have been shown to be highest in happy people and are responsible for lifting our mood and are often referred to as our ‘bliss’ chemicals. Cacao also contains monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO inhibitors) which are able to enhance this mood boosting effect as they slow down the degradation of these neurotransmitters, helping to extend their blissful effect.
Due to cacao being minimally processed it has extremely high levels of antioxidants with an ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) score of around 96,000μMol, nearly double that of regular cocoa powder.

The Organic cacao products are sourced from sustainable, organic co-op farms located in Peru. All farms involved in the co-op are part of a Development and Sustainability Program which involves giving incentives to farmers to produce organic and sustainable cacao products. The farmers undergo practical training and their environmental impact and sustainable growing practices are continually reviewed to ensure all standards are being met
